Custom Upholstered California King bed

Just out of the workroom is this custom California King upholstered bed, box spring & base. It is upholstered in a beautiful grey velvet. This is a design we have made before, found here on our website.

The headboard features a recession at the base where the mattress fits. The box spring sits on a full wood base, with a recessed toe kick, in dark stained walnut.

Red Velvet Sofa & Ottomans - Custom Screening Room

We just finished 2 custom sofas and 8 ottomans for a screening room - they are inspired by the Hollywood Glam style that is so popular right now. The sofas are deep & plush with rounded arms and removable bolster pillows between each seat that can easily be removed for lounging and relaxing.

The ottomans fit perfectly in front of each sofa and are comfortable enough to use as additional seating or to hold a tray of snacks, if necessary - or, just throw your feet up and relax (like they are intended!)!

Classic Design on Chairish!

Have you heard of Chairish yet? It's a great marketplace for buying & selling home decor. As you may know, we periodically buy classic pieces, which are restored here, and oftentimes they stay indefinitely because the logistics of selling are difficult. Chairish makes it easier - you list, upload and they handle the transportation! We've listed some of the pieces we have on hand - click on over and browse a bit. Better yet, click on over and buy, buy, buy!

Another Classic Design sighting!

image via Domaine Home

On my daily blog roll, I came across this story about the new Farmshop that opened in Marin County recently. The images are all lovely, but the photos of the bar and seating areas with stools that were made by Classic Design brought smiles to our faces.

It's always a treat to see our pieces in their intended places. Here are some photos of the stools before they left:

Be sure to check out the entire slideshow on the Domaine Home blog, it's a beautiful space!

White Silk Sofa

This is another recently finished piece for the installation I previously blogged about in New Jersey. The single seat is down filled and curves slightly at each end. The arms are sloped, and the recessed base is finished in white lacquer.

Custom Upholstered Headboard & Base

We just finished this Eastern King headboard & base for an installation in New Jersey (along with several other pieces I will be sharing).  This bed was designed to fit the clients' own Duxiana bed, and features horizontal square channels on the headboard from top to bottom. The base features the same fabric and is finished with square feet in white lacquer.

Classic Design sighting!

I love clicking and scrolling around, and finding work that we've done online (or in print)! While I'm very happy with the photos I am able to take in our little makeshift photo studio, there's nothing better than seeing a project in it's home, being used.

Earlier this week, after I uploaded to Tumblr, I scrolled down to check on a few of my favorites, and came across a link to an article about a historic A. Quincy Jones home (Tyre House) that was restored. As it turns out, we had restored & reupholstered the built-in sofa featured. Here it is as featured; it is truly beautiful in the home:

Here it is pre-restoration:

And after restoration:

If you would like to read more about this historic home & its' restoration, the L.A. Times article is here. It's humbling to be involved in these iconic restorations, and we are so happy that people are reviving these classic modern homes.

Leather Chesterfield Sofa

We just finished a leather Chesterfield style sofa for a client in New York. The leather is from Ashbury Hides and has a wonderful worn vintage look, which was exactly what the client was after. The legs are recessed far under the sofa, which gives it the illusion of floating in the room.

Custom Curved Banquette sofa

We just finished this custom curved banquette sofa. This piece was customized & designed specifically for a particular area of a home, which required our team to take an on site template to make sure it fit exactly where it needed to fit.

This is what happens here on a almost daily basis - lots of hand sewing, attention to detail. This is what we do...have a wonderful weekend!

Brass coffee table with leather inserts, from concept to reality

We just finished this beautiful brass coffee table for a client. It's a large piece, and quite heavy, but the details and design are worth it.

When we work with our clients, after all details are determined, the proposal signed and the deposit is received, we get to work. Usually this begins with sketch - we don't use any computer generated design programs. We are old school, so this is a hand sketch with as many details as possible included. Here's an example for this particular project (with the proprietary details removed):

We send this to the client for approval, or revision, and do not go into production until it is approved in writing. After approval, materials are sourced & procured; depending on the piece, a full scale sketch, or template, is made for our workshop - and we go from there! Timeframe depends on the current workroom schedule, production deadlines, and the type of piece we are making.

The table top and bottom shelf were fabricated in leather - 3 leather panels actually - with stitch detail on each panel, and the brass was finished with a antique patina.

It's so fulfilling to see projects come to fruition, and we're sure this table looks lovely in its' new home!

Custom Banquette Sofa

This is a custom banquette sofa that we just finished for a client in Northern California. A banquette sofa typically does not have arms, and are usually seen in restaurants, window seats or kitchen table nooks. Nowadays, many designers are using them as seating in spaces such as living rooms, family rooms and great rooms and they tend to lend a slight informal air to the area, depending on the fabric that is used.

In this case, the designer used a custom dyed & washed linen for the body, and a custom silk velvet for the single seat cushion & back pillows. Both the seat, and the back cushions, have light tufting. It's a simply gorgeous piece; we hope the client loves it!

White Leather Custom Bed

This California King custom bed we just finished is fabricated in white leather, with stitching details on the headboard & box spring frame.

There is a metal plate detail across the top of the headboard, which is replicated in the recessed base as well. Both pieces have a hand patina finish that contrasts beautifully with the crispness of the white leather.

Before & After: 19th Century French Settee

We just finished a complete restoration & reupholstery of an antique 19th century French settee. When it arrived, it was covered in the original muslin, with the original horsehair underneath.

Our client chose a custom embroidered horsehair fabric from Holland & Sherry, which had to first be seamed & positioned on the settee before going back to the company for the actual embroidery.

The horsehair fabric was used on the seat & inside back, and then a vintage floral fabric was used for the complete exterior and ramp (the section running along the top from the arms). A braided cord was applied in keeping with the period style.

We cleaned up the wood legs, and love how this period piece has a new fresh look!
