Happy Holidays from Classic Design

We are taking a well-deserved break until January 3, 2017, but we wanted to pop in and thank you for following our blog and journey through the year. 2016 was a very busy year and we are looking forward to new challenges and making more beautiful furniture for people to enjoy.

We use most of our space here to share the finished pieces, but the mosaic above shows that it takes a village to plan, design & build the pieces you see. We are forever grateful to our team of artisans for their exceptional work.

Happy Holidays from all of us!

Pantone Color of the Year, JMF Chair Style

Well, isn't this a nice coincidence! Pantone recently announced the color of the year for 2017, and we were giddy how closely it matched this set of Jean Michel Frank armchairs we recently finished.

The color is beautiful and combined with the naked oak feet, it really allows that green to pop! The fabric is a very light chenille, and thanks to the down cushions, beyond comfortable. These chairs are companion pieces to the two sofas we shared in the previous post. Don't you agree they will all look gorgeous together?

Hopefully, there will be more pieces in 2017 that will incorporate Greenery! What do you think of the color?

Matching Sofa Set

This sofa turned out beautifully. It's a large two seat style sofa with classic rolled arms and a flat skirt, which gives it a slightly casual vibe. But when you look closely, the fabric is anything but casual and is actually simply stunning.

The subtle pattern really elevates the style, and while its gorgeous, it's one of those fabrics that takes us a little longer to plan, cut & sew due to the pattern (we're really into making sure everything is matchy matchy). The results are worth it, don't you think??

We also made a smaller 3-seat version - the style is just a little different, but they work well together, with the fabric tying everything together.

If you notice, the same dedication to detail is shown on the back of the sofa, as the front. This piece would be just as beautiful in the middle of a room as against a wall.

Custom Adjusting Table

This table has been a true labor of love! It has been in development for over a year and a half (yes!), and there were so many details, technical & aesthetic, to take into consideration but we're so happy with the end result.

This table is designed for placement in front of a sofa, and adjusts so the user can play games, do work or enjoy a meal. You can easily raise the table to a comfortable position...

and if desired, pull it forward, closer to your body. Is this not genius? We think so - hence the labor of love here!

Just a little animation we put together to highlight this amazing piece! If you would like to hear more about this adjustable table, take a look at the video below and watch Raoul & Ricardo put this piece into action!

Classic Grey Tufted Bed

This might just be the perfect bed design! It's modern, timeless and classic, and the slight tufting on the padded headboard is the right amount of detail without going over the top.

The tufts are further highlighted by an 'X' stitch detail with tone-on-tone thread. It's a much less fussy way to bring an element of design to the forefront of a piece. The fabric is a gorgeous grey with an understated herringbone pattern, it's perfect for this piece!

The attached box base has rounded corners that are carried down to the dark stained walnut feet. We're thinking this might be the perfect place to spend those cold polar vortex days!

Similar custom beds can be found here, here and here.

Classic Oak X-Base Desk

Can't you just see yourself addressing your holiday cards at this gorgeous white oak desk? The style is different from many of the desks we have made recently, but we're really loving the X-base detail.

It's very difficult to see (sorry!), but the top is inlaid with smooth ivory leather, and the three drawers are lined with the same.

A typical problem with X-base pieces is their fragility, but this is completely solid & reinforced throughout.

But the real showstopper is the base, above & below. The recessed detail is subtle, as are the curved corners, but they elevate the piece to a higher plane and the light finish really prevents this desk from looking too heavy.

We have more pieces that have recently been finished that we will be sharing before the year closes, so be sure to check back in - or better yet, follow us on Facebook & Instagram for updates!

Custom JMF Style Armchair

We're back with the neutrals! From afar, this fabric looks like a solid linen, but it actually does have a subtle elegant pattern, which makes all the difference. Once again, done in the style of Jean Michel Frank, with some customization to the block feet. We love making JMF style pieces because they are so beautiful, so classic and so versatile!

A light tone-on-tone chevron pattern kicks it up a notch, and once again, while working with pattern, we pay attention to every detail to make sure seams all match up...seamlessly!

Custom Vertical Stripe Sofa

We've been all over the neutrals lately, so we thought we'd shake it up with a colorful sofa! This custom sofa is in the style of Jean Michel Frank (JMF), except the arms are a little wider and the feet are block instead of tapered. We can customize this style any way you would like!

Using a pattern, such as this, is beautiful, but it has its' challenges. We work very hard to match sections, stripes and patterns, and sometimes that means using more fabric than usual. This extreme attention to detail is the heart of our work, and we take pride in such precision. Isn't this fabric beautiful?

Wood Frame Ottoman with Nail heads

If you follow our blog, surely you have seen this ottoman design before! It's our most popular, most requested style, and for good reason. It's another piece that works well in any setting, and it's so easy to customize with wood, fabric, and trims.

This particular piece was fabricated with a light linen, dark stained oak and finished with nail heads in a French natural hue.

If you're new to this blog, more examples of this design can be found here, here, and here.

Classic Two-Seat Sofa

In everyone's quest for modern design, we always come back to the classic two-seat sofa. At home in a myriad of decor settings. This piece is fabricated with a light neutral fabric and sits on dark finished oak block feet.

The double top stitch is a nice detail on the light fabric, and the t-back cushions provide support and comfort for relaxation or work.

A pair of Slipper Chairs

These Slipper Chairs we finished recently for a client are pretty unique. The double tufted seat & back are fabricated in a heavy navy fabric, while the base is matching in rich navy leather.

We custom made the double walnut casters and added leather to center detail. It's a gorgeous upgrade that incorporates the color and style, and adds just enough chic to elevate this classic piece beyond the ordinary into extraordinary ;)

Upholstered Bed & Base

We can't believe it's the end of July, where did this month go??! We have been working on a large restoration & reupholstery project (that we hope to share soon!), but here is one of our most popular upholstered bed designs that we finished late last month.

We've made this bed in a variety of fabrics, but a simple linen is always the nicest because it showcases the clean lines and understated sophistication that makes this piece so special.

The base is an upholstered box spring and the feet were finished in a dark walnut. As with all custom work, they can be made with any kind of wood and finished in any color. More examples of this bed can be seen here, here and here.

Extra Long Sofa

Right up there with the large U-Shape Sectional, we have another large piece, this extra long 9' sofa, in a very similar style.

Our clients do not always tell us where a piece will be placed, and we rarely see photos of installed pieces, so of course, our curiosity is raised with this sofa! It was upholstered in a plush brown velvet, and like the recent sectional, features a dark finished recessed base, shown below.
