Before & after: Reupholstered Armchair

We just finished the reupholstery of this armchair, which, as you can see, was in dire need of a makeover!

The original fabric was worn and torn, and the beautiful arms were dulled, scratched, and pitted from years of use.

The first thing that we did, after we stripped all the upholster, was determine the new finish. We decided to go darker, which would bring a nice, rich sheen to the wood.

After filling, sanding and new stain, the wood is gorgeous. Since the client really wanted to update the look of the chair, she chose a natural linen fabric to complement the wood. And to modernize the style, instead of the original light tufting and button treatment, we did a simple but beautiful double top stitch, pieced detail on the seat back, bringing in the lower portion to give a bit of lumbar support and style.

Finally, a self welt was added along the bottom and sides.

A much loved chair is ready for many more years of use! Click on the photo below to view it larger!
