Classic Design sighting: American Trade Hotel, Panama

This is a project we worked on late last summer (seems so long ago now!) - Classic Design fabricated the back banquette cushions for recently renovated American Trade Hotel in Panama (part of the Ace Hotel chain).

This was a little complicated in that, as you can see, the back cushions are hanging from a rail. All the cushions have to be hanging in the same place; we fabricated the leather lacing and leather tabs, making sure every cushion would align properly. It's difficult to see in the photos, but the cushions are not flat; the lower 8" of each cushion has a built in lumbar roll. Here's our little mock up below - the ends of each leather rope is finished in a 'noose' tie.

Custom Tufted Headboard & Box spring

This California King custom bed is another piece that we finished in February. The headboard is lightly tufted and sits outside the matching upholstered box spring base. Both pieces are upholstered in a beautiful grey velvet by Rubelli.

The recessed base is walnut with a dark espresso stain.

Custom Leather Ottoman

Another recently finished piece is this leather topped white oak ottoman. It's a style we have made before; our clients love the simplicity and clean lines.

Mirrored & Silver-leafed Vanity with custom Silk Fringe Pouf

We just finished this amazing piece! The vanity top is encased in mirror on all sides, including the three drawer fronts. The legs were first painted Santa Monica Blue by Benjamin Moore, and then silver leafed. It's difficult to see in the photos, but just a tiny bit of the blue peaks through on the edges and silver leaf seams.

The inside of the drawers were painted Summer Nights by Benjamin Moore, and is a beautiful contrast.

It's got that very cool retro, Hollywood Glam vibe, and the silk fringe pouf stool in yellow completely finishes the set.

Louis XVI Daybed

We just finished reupholstering a [very good!] reproduction of a Louis XVI daybed. We are estimating that this piece is from the 1950's or 1960's. We reupholstered it in the classic style, using horsehair and stitching as it was done in 18th century France. The technique has not changed in 300 years, and having been classically trained, our artisans know exactly what to do.

Our client was after a natural, bohemian vibe so we used tea-stained muslin and burlap, and kept the nails & seams exposed. Il est très joli!

This is what happens when you DON'T bring your Eames chair to Classic Design...

Can you imagine? This is why you should only use a reputable shop with experience (like Classic Design!) to restore your beloved Eames chair. We will take care of that nasty eyesore and bring this chair back to life. Stay tuned for the after story!
