Andre Sornay Inspired Chair

Andre Sornay was a brilliant French modernist furniture designer whose fabrication techniques and ideas helped shape the furniture industry as we know it today.

After the financial crash of 1929, he changed his style to feature clean, simple lines and bold geometric forms, many times using exposed nails along the edges of furniture. This process created the minimalist, modernist aesthetic that has inspired many, us included, in the years since.

Our Sornay inspired chair holds many of these attributes, comfort and form are key as well. The beautiful fabric used here is enhanced by the oak wood, with a light ceruse finish. It is primarily used as an occasional chair, or an office guest chair.

More versions of this chairs can be seen here and here.

Custom Modern Ottoman

This is an amazing custom piece – our goal was to match an existing piece for our client, and we were challenged with creating the proportions necessary to both fit the space, and keep the aesthetic.

When we are tasked with a custom piece of furniture, there’s quite a bit of research that happens before we can even start to sketch. And it’s the initial engineering of the final piece in the beginning of the process that is so much fun.

The curved frame of this ottoman sits atop a round walnut base with an overstuffed pillow top, and exposed raw seams. We had a lot of fun making it!
