Before & After: Lou Hodges Sling Sofa & Chair

What a transformation! These two pieces were designed by Lou Hodges for the California Design Group in the 1970’s. With clean and simple lines, and a cantilevered frame, they are solid and extremely comfortable.

We completely restored, refinished & reupholstered both pieces in vintage black leather, giving them new life, and finished the wood a little darker than it was originally, which really brings out the richness of the grain.  Both pieces have such a great 70’s aesthetic and they will surely be enjoyed for many years to come.

Before & After: Paul McCobb Directional Chairs

Paul McCobb was an American furniture designer whose work combined the design aesthetics of Marcel Breuer, Florence Knoll, George Nelson and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, in that he largely ignored ornamentation and excess detail.

His work was sold by several companies, mostly Directional, a New York firm that also produced work by Vladimir Kagan, and he is responsible for designing the pieces for the original Today show in 1952.

These high back lounge chairs were part of the production from Directional, circa 1959, and they have stood the test of time, both in their design and simplicity, and the beautiful condition we were able to bring them back to.

Here is a quick before photo of their condition prior to restoration.  We completely refinished the wood frames, including the repair & rebuilding of the frames, and completely reupholstered the seats and backs as the originals with all new leather.
