Before & After: Borge Mogensen 2213 Sofa

Borge Mogensen is considered to be among the great Danish furniture designers of the mid-century era. He focused on making pieces that were simple, comfortable and durable, which he hoped would make them more useful and better loved.

This model is the 2213 Sofa, which is still in production today, and was specifically designed for Mogensen's home north of Copenhagan. The home still stands today, and the original sofa is still there, placed between the two tables that dictated the dimensions of the sofa. We recently restored an original, and it's just as beautiful.

The simplicity and clean lines of the 2213 Sofa have made it one of the most recognized pieces that Mogensen designed and made, and this model is frequently seen in commercial spaces, offices and homes.

Nicely done, Mr. Mogensen.

Shearling Armchair

Imagine sinking into this chair, completely upholstered in genuine sheepskin, like the inside of an Ugg boot. We really can't think of anything cozier, except maybe a roaring fire and a whiskey laced cup of hot chocolate. Who's with us on this?

We are referring to it as a square armchair, but the design borrows elements from Jean Michel Frank and Jean Royere, both of whom pioneered this classic style.

Due to the nature of the skin, this piece had to be completely sewn by hand. It's complicated, because the hair has a tendency to creep into the seams, and has to be meticulously picked out, carefully so as to not dislodge or inadvertently cut or remove them. The finished product is unbelievably comfortable, soft and as inviting as ever.

Eames in Color

When we realized we had restored so many Eames Lounge Chairs in colors other than the traditional black, we thought it would be fun to do a collage! What do you think? In the right space, color is a fantastic option for these classic chairs, making them more of a focal point than ever.

If you could chose a color other than black, what would it be?

Tufted Silk Headboard & Box Base

This newly finished upholstered bed is fabricated in gorgeous silk with diamond tufting on the shaped headboard.

The side and front rail are upholstered in the same silk fabric, with generous padding to keep the aesthetic soft. The clients' own box spring and mattress drop right in.

Our in-progress shot shows the meticulous and careful work that goes into making sure the tufts are straight, consistent and perfectly matched.

Leather Wrapped Three Drawer Desk

Pictures cannot begin to convey how gorgeous this desk is in person. Fabricated in oak, and finished with a dark stain, it features three drawers that are partially covered in leather, as is the desktop and sides.

It's similar to the executive desk we shared a while back, but only really in terms of the privacy panel along the back.

The leather detail on the drawer fronts is top notch as it seamlessly transitions to wood, and the small reveal between the leather and wood is another beautiful detail that doesn't go unnoticed.

As a special addition, we lined the drawers with leather pads that have simple stitching at the edge.

Beautiful Walnut Four Post Bed

This bed is stunning in real life - the walnut posts and side rails were stained dark and then oil rubbed for an amazing smooth finish. You will notice in the second photo below the inward taper of the post feet. These little details are everywhere, and completely set this bed apart.

The padded headboard and footboard is upholstered in silk dupioni, which has a gorgeous texture and gives depth in contrast to the smoothness of the wood. And we added a welt trim to give the transition from fabric to wood a softer element.

The brass rod connecting the posts is a nice detail our client designed, adding a touch of lustre to the entire piece.
