Before & After: George Nelson Sling Sofa

We received this amazing George Nelson Sling sofa recently, that was in need of some TLC. Manufactured in the 1960's by Herman Miller, the frame is constructed of tubular steel with leather seat & back cushions over a leather & rubber sling seat. Like most of Nelson's pieces, it was designed to be as practical & comfortable as possible.

When it arrived at our workshop, the cushions were worn, the leather was cracked & faded, and many of the leather straps were cracked or broken. The steel frame was polished & shined, and we replaced and repaired many of the straps, as well as the cushions & leather.

Reupholstered: French Armchairs

We recently finished the reupholstery of a pair of French armchairs. They were previously upholstered in a rust velvet, including the feet which were upholstered as well. Since the chairs were originally very low, we raised the height slightly and kept the feet uncovered. Set off against the lighter fabric, it raises the level of sophistication and looks more contemporary.

Before & After: Rare Herman Miller desk chairs

We just finished a restoration of several pieces of early Herman Miller chairs, among them were these two desk chairs. They are extremely rare, and seem to be a cross between the Time Life chair and the Soft Pad chair.

As you can see, the leather was worn and torn, and the metal dull, scratched and pitted. We completely restored these pieces with new foam and leather, and worked our magic on the metal. They are now as good as new!

Before & After: Sofa Reupholstery

This sofa was in dire need of help when it arrived at our workshop. Originally covered in ivory, we recovered it in a dark slate velvet and changed the nail heads from brass to pewter.

We also modified the seat cushions to a single, which added a more elegant form.
